Are We in A Spirtual War or Just Weak in Faith?

blogpic.jpg.png.jpgIt’s almost impossible today to sit around the TV or even go to a public gathering and not hear ones opinion on a matter, am I right? Wherever there is an opinion there is likely someone there becoming offended by something someone says or taking issue to a matter when behind closed doors they have a similar issue or struggle with a bigger issue. I hate to say it to my Christian brothers and sisters, but stop complaining. We are not at war, or at least the war many of you are trying to fight is the wrong one, especially in the United States. However, it seems like every time there is an abortion debate, LGBT matter, or just about anything it becomes a religious issue. Great, I say that is great, and I commend you for wanting you to have a God inspired life, but many of you are going about this all the wrong way. New’s flash America, you can be Christian and support gay rights, or don’t support gay right, but still not look like a bigot. Not every LGBT American is seeking your approval, if they were they would be in a dark dismal place. They do not need your approval, but like any human being they demand your respect, love, and care. You do not have to agree with their life, and if you are a Christian it’s awfully hard come up with a reason to necessarily support the life. However, allowing them to have basic human rights is Christian, because if Jesus were to meet a gay man today he would not see the man on the outside, but see the soul within. This is simply one example of how the American Christian community has become overly sensitive, but also began to deter other potential Christians from joining the ranks with the King. I see a lot of people crying out were at war, but all I see is a group of American’s weak in faith.

Freedom of Religion is not just for Christians

So today I am going to throw some punches, and for some of you they may hurt, but let’s get down to it. So when this nation was founded by a group of Christians, and I will admit this nation was founded by Christians, and many of our laws are inspired, but they are not strictly Christian. Understand that we are one nation under God, but that doesn’t mean we are limited to strictly Christians. When we created our nation we put in our constitution freedom of religion. The founding fathers more than anyone could tell you how difficult it is to have a belief system forced on you. They separated from England for freedom to worship as they pleased so deep down they had to know that one day this nation would not just be Christians, but also a nation with Jews, Muslims, Buddhist, and more. Freedom of religion does not give you the authority to impose your way on other individuals. So being a nation who has freedom of religion we must understand that people are free to believe what they want to believe. At the end of the day you have to know what you believe is the right thing, but still respect the boundaries of other people. This is what religious freedom is all about. If you disagree with how someone thinks or believes that’s where you go to God in prayer. Not only will God place guidance in your heart, but the change you seek is only done by God. When we take things in our own hands not only are we dishonoring God, but your ruining the chances anyone else who may be considering Christianity. It doesn’t matter what someone believes, they are out neighbors and we must love them. So next time your hear someone say we need to kick Muslims out of this nation because they are Muslim let them know they are violating one of the biggest principles of this nations. Now I know Islam has a negative connotation, but you can not judge a group by a small fraction.

Look around the world and not ever nation has this gift of freedom of religion. It’s a gift it truly is, and people have an option to change their belief without fear of persecution. No one is going to be stoned for leaving their faith and joining another. In certain parts of the world people risk their lives to be Christian, but not in America. If you want to go to war and there is a war going on, but not in the US, focus on the right stuff. No rational human is going to kill you for being Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Mormon, or some other variation of Christianity. No one is going to condemn you for being Jewish. Its still relatively safe to be Muslim in America, even though bigots make it difficult. Of course there are some things to frown at when your thinking of Muslim life, but they have the freedom to exercise those things in this nation. Not all Muslims are terrorist, not all Mormons are polygamist, and not all Baptist have an affiliation with the off the wall beliefs of Westboro it should be common sense don’t judge people by their 1% of less. I can tell you there are few Mormon polygamist. I can tell you that there is not a single legitimate Baptist who has anything to do with Westboro they are a despicable group of humans. If you don’t believe that when they protested military funerals there were times when a number of bikers, some of which were part of biker gangs put a wall between them an the funerals. You know your in the wrong when a gang of bikers are the “Good Samaritans.” I digress, people in this nation do not have to fear for their ability to worship because it’s a right. While sometimes it does get infringed upon people in this nation don’t have to fear death, beatings, or anything like our brothers and sisters in the Middle East and other parts of Asia. So next time you want to cry foul because it seems this nation is favoring one group versus another realize you could be one of those people facing persecution. You we blessed to live in this nation. Furthermore, understand when it comes to freedom of religion we must have an opportunity for all teams to play.

Christianity’s Numbers are Falling, but its not the Government

A lot of people today want to blame the government for producing unchristian policy, but here’s the thing folks is we live in a nation where separation of church and state exist. While you may not agree with it, it’s here to stay. Now I believe that there needs to be a balance, but the government allowing abortions is not hurting church attendance, nor is gay marriage, or any other policy the government passes. I know its a shocker for many of you to hear this, but the government is not infringing on your right to evangelize, nor are they stopping your from being a Christian. The government nor liberals, or conservatives are infringing on the growth of the church. You want to know the biggest factor it’s you, and it may not be you specifically, but by you I mean other Christians. Today millennials still believe in God, but they have no guidance, they see a church of naysayers and judgement. They see hypocrisy. There are some flaws with the millennial logic I will admit because it doesn’t matter where you go there are hypocrites. However, that’s not the point. Millennials want to see acceptance and when people go out of their way to make the life of another harder people look and and say “is this what their beliefs are all about?” We continue to see more and more individuals who say off the all things and it hurts the church. The actions of Kim Davis hurts the church, because they don’t see an independent action of a person who goes to church, but rather see a person who could be a direct representative of the whole faith. When Pat Roberson says his off the wall comments they see the whole faith. The millennial population is still in love with God and Jesus, but may be lost. They are clinging to the term spiritual. With the media and the growing population of liberal youths which will not accept in equality its time for us to show who we really are. The government is fulfilling their duties to provide rights to every individual, it’s not their job to put souls in the seat it all of ours.

Why So Sensitive?

Bouncing off of the government issue its not just the government which is causing an outcry from Christians, its literally everything. Even Disney has become a religious issue, and it’s ridiculous that there had to be a public movement to block the Frozen creators from doing what they want because of another groups opinion. The crazier thing was that Frozen’s  creators had not even spoken on what would be in the sequel, but since there was a chance Queen Elsa is being advocated as a lesbian there had to be a public outcry. Stop being so sensitive about the wrong issues. If you were so passionate about homelessness, volunteering, or human trafficking prevention this would be a better place to live in. Christians today have to have issue with so many different things, but it doesn’t see to matter there is a mass of people starving. There is a mass of people in slavery. It doesn’t seem to matter to so many Christians, and back to my prior point, this is why people are leaving the church. Its not because the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage, no its because of some of the radical views of the ultra conservative evangelicals. Well I am here to tell you they are not what the church is about, they may go there, but so do hundreds of other people. If you don’t see enough balance there are hundreds of other churches you can attend. We as Christians need to give an accurate representation of Jesus and stop skewing it. We are not Jesus, and we can not speak for him 100% of the time. Jesus is greater than any church, organization, or institution. For those of you struggling to find faith, find Jesus and your life will be better. Sometimes we as humans can completely paint an inaccurate picture of who Jesus really is.

Wrapping Up

We find ourselves in a unique predicament today, and its something we can prevent. Millennials today believe in God and still believe in Jesus, and if not they know there is some kind of higher power, but there are people within the walls of the church driving people away from the gathering. Understand that the building that we know as church is not the most important aspect of the Christian faith, but we need to gather. When we as Christians become overly sensitive to every issue under the moon it makes us seem judgemental. Additionally, it shows how clueless some of use really are. We have the blessing of knowing absolute truth, but live as if we have no idea what absolute truth is. That truth is Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Jesus died for our sins and those who believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. The greatest gift as a Christian we can give is the gift of Jesus. We need to live as examples for Jesus, and walk as Jesus would walk. We need to give up the greed. We need to stop judging. Most importantly we need to stop fighting the wrong battles. We need to get in our Bibles and learn who Jesus really is. We need to seek out those who are looking for Jesus. We must also seek other Christians and create the church. As Christians we need to continue to find ways to reach out and help others rather than creating a scene. We have to condemn people who are skewing who Jesus is. I hate to tell people this, but we as American’s are not in a spiritual war there are over 300,000 churches in the United States. Every President in US history has been a Christian. 80% of Democrats in congress are Christian. There is not an open season on Christians. Over 70% of this nation is still Christian. We are not in a spiritual war in this nation folks, many of us are just weak in faith.

Be a Better Christian!

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'”

-Matthew 25:35-40

Have you ever asked what you can do to be a better Christian? Look no further than Matthew 25:35-40. Jesus came to this Earth to help us, die for us, and give us hope. He came and provided hope, strength, and power for the sick, poor, and weary. I use the phrase sick, poor, and weary and it is the sick poor and weary that is often overlooked in this nation. We are such a rich and wealthy that sometimes we do not see the homeless man sitting on the side of the road. We often overlook the person being trafficked. We fear the person with the drug addiction. We drive away those with addictions to pornography, alcohol, and gambling. However, this is not what Jesus would do. He would recognize their sin, but see the person inside. How many times have you walked past a homeless person who asked you for money and you said no, but fully knew there was a dollar in your pocket. How many times, did you cross the street to avoid them. How many times have you not even said hello. Whoa to you my fellow Christian, these are not actions of a Christians, and if you have done these things you need to stop. It’s not your place to judge that person. If they use that money on booze or drugs they have to answer to God, not you. However, when you stand at the gates and you stand before your Maker can you always say you welcomed Him in? I know I have been guilty a time or two, but I see the wrong in my ways. Now there are moments where you do not have the money on you, and that’s fine. If you don’t have it you don’t have it, but don’t get caught up in the excuses.

564,708 people are homeless in the United States today and about half of them are in families. As someone whose family was legally homeless at a time it’s not an easy process, but luckily family brought us in before my brother and I could realize anything was different in our lives. No my family never endured the street, but we went through some struggles. God has blessed me and my family with people who were willing to help us, and now I am in a position where I can help these people, and I intend to do so. If you can not help financially feed these people, clothe these people, care for these people, or simply say hello to these people. They are human beings and they deserve your respect just as much as anyone else. Look into your heart and see what God ask of you. Look through your pantry and see what food you could give. Look into your schedule and see if you can volunteer. Look into your closet and uncluttered your life and donate those clothing items to a reputable charity. Did you know that 48.8 million Americans including 16.2 million children go without the basic nutritional needs on a regular basis. There are so many ways we can help others around us. Maybe you know there is a family who is struggling reach out, some people may not be open to the help, but at least be there for support. There is nothing holding you back from making a difference because simply being there for an individual whether its someone who is sick. Someone who is homeless, or someone with a home you can change their life with simple kindness. Mission trips are wonderful, but don’t quit there. Another disturbing statistic in our world today there are over 27 million people in slavery still. Our help is needed everyday and it may not be fighting human trafficking, helping the homeless, or in the trenches saving souls. It can me small acts or much larger acts, acting as a Christian is simple. You can change lives by helping with church whether its helping in children’s ministry, starting a Bible study, or simply reaching out to souls within those walls. We can all make a difference and we shall not delay, God’s glory should live with in you everyday.
